Oh Hello Jackie O.

Michelle Obama in Jason Wu at Home States Inauguration Ball

After almost two decades of drab skirt suits, finally there is some style in the White House.  All during their campaign the Obamas have been compare to the Kennedy’s and Michelle has had the the privilege of being compared style-wise to Jackie O.  Well hello Michelle O.  Everyone has  noticed Michelle’s style.  Even a male friend of mine who wouldn’t know a hemline from an empire waist commented, “That Michelle, I like her style, it’s sassy!”   Working at BCBG, I had the privilege of sending Michelle– I don’t think she wore the looks, but still.  While election night’s Narcisco Rodriguez’s number was a little questionable, Inauguration day and night outfits more than made up for it.

During Inuguration day, Michelle wore Cuban American, NY based designer Isabel Toledo.  This amazing limey yellow sheath dress and empire waist over coat really popped against Michelle’s skin.  The overcoat was apparently pashmina lined to keep her warm but will be available sans the lining come this Spring.  The designer did not even know Michelle had chosen her design until the First Lady appeared!  Barney’s and Saks, exclusive sellers of Isabel Toledo, changed their window displays right away.  Michelle complimented the look with olive shoes and leather gloves by J. Crew.

J. Crew also made the girls, Malia and Sasha’s adorable coats.  I wonder if they were designed by J.Crew designer and Amherst Alumn Alexander Casertano.  They looked chic and perfect and the colours also really popped.  In a see of black the Obamas really stood out.  Such cuties!

Mama bear’s Inaguration Ball gown was a stunner.  And I’m sure she looked as perfect in CFDA Fashion Fund Finalist, Jason Wu’s beautiful one shoulder white gown at the end of the night– after TEN balls– as she did as they took their first dance, serenaded by Beyonce to the Etta James classic, At Last.

Obama opened his Neighborhood Ball speech by saying, “First of all, how beautiful is my wife?”  And that she is Barack.

Here’s to Michelle O.
